Christian Youth Weekend 2009 - A Day of Awesome

Picture
On April 11th, 2009, an amusement park titled Six Flags Over Texas, located in Arlington Texas, hosted the Christian Youth Weekend for 2009.  On that Friday, four bands were playing sets.  Decyfer Down, Disciple, Red, and Skillet.  These four Christian rock bands were prepared to blow the audience away as each of they always did.  With music loud enough to rattle your pants, amazing pyro, and inspiring lyrics, the bands, once again, blew the audience away, leaving them wanting more.  Of course we would want more Skillet!  Haha…

I had never seen Decyfer Down, Disciple, or Red live before, but they surely surpassed my expectations!  Decyfer Down’s new lead singer, TJ, did a great job filling in for the beloved Caleb who has left the band!  Disciple even got my mom into scream for the time being when ever screams were present.  Red gave me a whole new artist to love, for their songs were just amazing and sounded completely awesome!  I was once again impressed by the amazing job the crew men did at sound check because everything sounded really perfect!

In my opinion, which to me is a fact, Skillet put on the best show that night.  Being the only ones with outstanding pyrotechnics, a heart attacking intro, and a cute singer (=]), Skillet would have to take first place for the night.  They went on last, since they were headliner, but they still had it in them even after waiting for the thunder storm to pass by after Disciple’s set.  Skillet’s songs once again were very inspirational, got me singing at the top of my lungs, got me head banging, whatever!  My face was rocked off beyond repair…. WOOHOO!  Oh yes, and when Skillet performed their two new songs, “Hero” and “Monster”, the crowd went wild…  John gave us shocking vocals and bass that night, Korey rocking on the keyboard and rhythm guitar, Ben shredding our faces off on his guitar, and Jen shaking the venue with her pounding drum beats!

Of course the three opening acts were amazing too, Decyfer Down with a short set stll got our heads a bobbin’.  Disciple’s set was cut short due to a thunderstorm, which forced the audience to go out into the park until the lightning had passed by.  Red though got to play a full length set, and blew us away as well.  Not as great as Skillet, but they were still wonderful!  Their singer even climbed up onto parts of the stage beams near the end of their set!  Their music was really great, and even got me influenced to go out and buy their two albums, deluxe editions!

He outdoor venue with the open space was a great place for the show, since it allowed Skillet to use every ounce of pyrotechnics they possessed!  It also allowed for the sound to be more lovely sounding, without damaging our ears.  I have seen Skillet play in that venue twice now, and I loved it each time!

Overall, the show was amazing and life changing if you ask me!  But you didn’t ask me, I am just telling you.  =]  Anyway, I was surely suggest that you go see any of these four artists live, especially Skillet, because, I can almost assure you that you will leave a different person.
